AM I A CANDIDATE?

Do you struggle to maintain a healthy weight? You’re not alone. In Australia, over 60% of the adult population is considered overweight, with 25% of these in the obese category (ABS 2012). Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is used to identify your risk of morbidity and mortality as a result of being overweight. If your BMI is over 40, or over 35 and you are experiencing health issues, weight loss surgery should be considered. You can calculate your BMI using the calculator on this page.

WHAT ARE MY CHOICES?

At Shore Surgical, we perform three main types of weight loss surgery – the Gastric Bypass, the Gastric Sleeve, and the Gastric Band. We also offer the more temporary EndoBarrier Therapy. Your surgeons will be able to suggest the option that is ideal to your individual situation once they have thoroughly looked at your medical history and current state of health. We also offer revisional surgery for those who have not enjoyed success from previous procedures.

Following surgery, most patients lose weight rapidly and continue to lose weight for 18-24 months. For a Gastric Band, most patients achieve loss of at least 50% of excess body weight. The majority of patients who receive the Gastric Sleeve or Gastric Bypass experience 60% to 80% loss of excess body weight. The higher your initial BMI, the more weight you are likely to lose.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

Regardless of the type of procedure, our proven approach to sustainable weight loss is a comprehensive and cost-effective package with no hidden costs or ongoing fees. The package includes surgery, pre and post operative care, and access to our full team of specialists including Surgeons, Dietician, and Psychologist.

Did you know your superannuation can pay for your weight loss surgery?

As these procedures are not yet available through public health care, and morbid obesity is acknowledged as a life-threatening condition, the Australian Government will grant access to you or another family member’s super fund to meet the expense of the procedure.

A Centrelink application form and a written letter of support from both your Surgeon and GP is required to process the early release of funds. We’ll be happy to assist with this paperwork once you have had your initial consultation with our surgeons.

The process usually takes around 7-9 weeks in total for the funds to clear in your bank account. For more information regarding the early release of your super, click here.

We also offer payment plans via MacCredit
