Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure of the abdominal and pelvic organs performed through tiny incisions using a surgical camera and specialised instruments. The laparoscope lens delivers an image to a monitor giving the surgeon the sight to perform the procedure without requiring invasive open surgery. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is inserted into the abdomen and helps to separate the organs inside the abdominal cavity making it more accessible for the surgeon to work. The gas is removed at the end of the procedure.
Laparoscopic is less invasive than traditional methods. It promotes faster healing, less pain, reduced scarring and a shorter recovery period.
